As an interior designer in Bristol, I have the privilege of working on projects that balance beauty with history. The Preserve Cottage Project, set within the enchanting grounds of a historic castle, is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can both respect heritage and create a warm, welcoming home.

Honouring Heritage in Interior Design

When working with historic homes and cottages in Bristol, one of the most important considerations is retaining their unique character. The Preserve Cottage is a property steeped in history, and our approach was to enhance, rather than overwhelm, its architectural charm.

Traditional panelling was introduced to bring depth and rhythm to the rooms. This detail not only reflects the cottage’s heritage but also adds an enduring sense of craftsmanship and elegance—timeless qualities we always look to celebrate in our interior design projects across Bristol and Bath.

Grounded with Flagstone and Softened with Elegance

Floors are the foundation of a home, and for a property with such historic significance, we chose flagstone flooring to tie the interiors back to the permanence of the castle grounds. Flagstone carries a natural strength and texture, instantly connecting the cottage to its surroundings.

To soften this sturdy base, we layered floral rugs throughout the home. These brought a delicate elegance and warmth, creating a gentle contrast to the stone. The result is a balance of heritage permanence with homely comfort—something that feels deeply welcoming for modern living while honouring the past.

Layering History with Contemporary Comfort

A key part of our work as interior designers in Bristol is finding the right balance between history and modern lifestyle. In the Preserve Cottage, layering was key: traditional wood panelling, heritage stone flooring, and soft furnishings combined to create an interior that feels timeless yet liveable. Every choice was made to reflect the story of the home while ensuring it remains a comfortable retreat for today.

Interior Designer Bristol: Preserving Stories Through Design

The Preserve Cottage Project is more than just a renovation—it’s a continuation of history. As an interior designer based in Bristol, I believe every project tells a story, and this one beautifully captures the essence of heritage, permanence, and elegance. By respecting the fabric of the cottage and layering it with warmth, we’ve created a home that honours its past while being ready for the future.

If you’re looking for an interior designer in Bristol to help you transform a historic home, cottage, or modern property with timeless elegance, I’d love to help you bring your vision to life.
