I'm delighted to share that our Failand Farmhouse project has been featured on Creativepool Editorial in its Behind the Idea series!

The feature, titled How Khaya Studio Brought Timeless Character to the Failand Farmhouse, explores the inspiration and design thinking behind the transformation of this beautiful country home just outside Bristol.

It's always lovely to have your work recognised, but what makes this feature particularly special is the opportunity to share a little more about the thought and creativity that goes into each project.

Creating a timeless farmhouse interior

Set in an idyllic countryside location, surrounded by fields and woodland, Failand Farmhouse is a beautiful stone property with plenty of character. The clients approached Khaya Studio to redesign their formal sitting room, which had become dated and underused.

The brief was to create a space that felt fresh, light and welcoming, while remaining sympathetic to the architecture and character of the farmhouse.

As with every project, my starting point was the property itself. I wanted the finished interior to feel as though it had always belonged there, rather than looking like a recently introduced design scheme.

The clients were drawn to the soft greens and warmer amber tones in the initial concept boards, which became the foundation of the colour palette. These natural shades bring a sense of calm and warmth, subtly reflecting the surrounding countryside.

An engineered oak floor introduced a beautiful natural foundation, while faux ceiling beams – something the client had always dreamed of having – added architectural interest and helped create the character of a traditional farmhouse interior.

We also introduced new lighting throughout, soft green patterned window treatments to frame the countryside views, and carefully selected furniture and accessories to bring the scheme together.

The result is a relaxed, inviting sitting room that feels both timeless and comfortable, with a fresh sense of personality.

More than just a beautiful interior

A significant part of the project was managing the entire installation. With multiple trades working on site, coordination was essential to ensure everything came together within a two-week installation window.

At Khaya Studio, I offer a fully project-managed interior design service, overseeing the process from initial concepts and sourcing through to installation and final styling. I believe this makes a real difference to the client experience, allowing the design to be delivered as intended while minimising disruption along the way.

Why architecture matters

One of the things I feel most strongly about as an interior designer is responding to the architecture of a property.

A country farmhouse calls for a very different design approach to a Victorian townhouse, a grand coach house or a contemporary new build. I don't believe in applying the same aesthetic to every home. Instead, I look at the building's character, proportions and surroundings, alongside the people who live there, to create interiors that feel genuinely connected to their setting.

It's this considered, individual approach that sits at the heart of Khaya Studio.
