When you invite an interior designer into your home, you’re placing a great deal of trust in them - not only to create something beautiful, but also to manage your investment responsibly and deliver work to the highest professional standards. That’s where accreditation comes in.
Accreditation is the hallmark of a qualified, ethical, and professionally recognised interior designer. It demonstrates a commitment to excellence - not only in creativity, but also in training, technical competence, and client care.
The Two Leading UK Accreditation Bodies
In the UK, the two main governing bodies for interior designers are:
SBID - The Society of British and International Interior Design (https://www.sbid.org/)
BIID - The British Institute of Interior Design (https://biid.org.uk/)
Both are highly respected, and each plays an important role in raising the standards of the profession.

The SBID (Society of British and International Interior Design)
As a member of the SBID, I am proud to be part of a professional body that upholds integrity and excellence across the interior design industry.
The SBID is the professional organisation for interior designers, setting standards across the entire process - from design practice and project management to product manufacturing and fit-out installations. It is also the UK’s leading authority recognised to regulate and promote the profession at both national and international levels.
Membership is not simply a subscription; it is a recognition of qualification, experience, and ethical conduct. Each member has undergone assessment to ensure their practice aligns with the SBID’s rigorous standards for quality, sustainability, and professionalism.
Why Accreditation Matters
Accreditation gives clients peace of mind. When you work with an SBID- or BIID-accredited designer, you can be confident that:
They hold recognised qualifications in interior design.
They follow an established professional code of conduct.
They are insured and adhere to best-practice health and safety standards.
They have proven experience managing projects responsibly and effectively.
They continue to invest in ongoing professional development.
Ultimately, it means your designer isn’t just talented - they’re trusted.
My Commitment as an SBID Accredited Designer
At Khaya Studio, I believe design should be a seamless and uplifting experience for every client. My accreditation with the SBID reinforces that belief - ensuring every project I undertake, from period property renovations in Bristol to turnkey interiors across Somerset, meets the highest standards of design and delivery.
Being an Associate of the SBID is an honour - one that reflects not only years of study and experience, but also an ongoing commitment to the craft and to the clients who place their trust in my studio.
Choosing the Right Designer for You
When selecting an interior designer, I would always encourage clients to choose someone who is accredited by either the SBID or BIID. Accreditation ensures accountability, quality, and a level of professionalism that helps your project run smoothly - protecting both your investment and your peace of mind.
